Münster is expecting a big science festival: SchlauRaum invites you!

The science festival “SchlauRaum” will take place in Münster from July 5th to 11th, 2025. It is organized by the University of Münster, the FH Münster, the University Hospital of Münster (UKM) and Münster Marketing. Under the motto "Why? Why? Healthy? Münster's science festival SchlauRaum gives you answers", the focus this year is on health. Visitors can expect a diverse program that includes lectures, films, readings, exhibitions, sporting activities, excursions and theater performances.

The festival will open on July 5th at 11 a.m. in Stubengasse, where Mayor Markus Lewe and other speakers will introduce the event. This week, Stubengasse will become an open-air lecture hall, which will be used for five themed days on which different health aspects will be discussed.

Themed events

On July 7th the focus will be on mobility, exercise and prevention, followed by a nutrition day on July 8th. July 9th is dedicated to the future of health and digital health, while July 10th focuses on body, mind and soul. The event concludes on July 11th, when climate, environment and prevention will be discussed.

An open-air cinema is also planned on opening day, where the film “Heroine” will be shown. From July 5th to 7th, the Titanick Theater presents the play “Tipping Point” on the harbor square. A highlight, the largest yoga class, will take place on July 6th at 12 p.m. on the Prinzipalmarkt. From July 7th, the knowledge bar in the town hall courtyard awaits participants with daily lectures, while pedal boat readings on Lake Aasee will shed light on various aspects of health care from July 6th.

In addition, the emission-free water bus “Solaaris” will offer educational trips from July 7th to 11th. The Archaeological Museum and the University of Music will also hold special events as part of the festival. The “SchlauRaum” festival also celebrates 100 years of Münster University Medicine with a special open-air series on July 4th, supported by the Sparkasse Münsterland Ost Foundation and the Alliance for Science.

Digital alternatives for science events

In the past, the science festival offered digital offerings in a different form, as in 2020, when the festival took place online for the first time due to the corona pandemic. Over 80 institutions from home and abroad organized more than 150 individual events to maintain the dialogue between science and society. The target group particularly included schoolchildren from Germany, Switzerland and Austria, who were able to take part in live broadcasts to the German Antarctic station and the CERN research center.

The festival was able to promote broad acceptance of new techniques and technologies, supported by companies and institutions in Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria and other countries. It is hoped that this year's event in Münster will receive an equally positive response and awaken curiosity about scientific topics.
