Sustainable center in Münster: construction progress and climate protection combined!
The construction of the new natural science center in Münster is progressing according to plan. According to Markus Vieth, the technical branch manager of the BLB NRW, the shell buildings with a total area of 14,000 square meters were built in a very short time. The focus is not only on creating new spaces for teaching and research, but also on creating attractive places to stay for students and scientists.
The scientific center is being developed in close partnership between the city, the universities, the university clinic and the student union. This cooperation aims to promote quality of stay and sustainability in urban development. The Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics IBP supports similar projects and emphasizes how important municipalities and districts are in achieving national climate protection goals.
Energy efficiency and sustainable technologies
The central building of the new institute will be equipped with a holistic energy concept. Among other things, plans include a photovoltaic system on around 1,000 square meters of roof area, which will supply around 83,000 kilowatt hours of climate-friendly electricity annually. In addition, a combined heat and power plant will be installed, which will be used in combination with an absorption refrigeration system to use waste heat for cooling.
The building's flat roofs will be covered in greenery to retain rainwater and improve the microclimate in the area. These measures contribute to the desired balance sheet climate neutrality of the North Rhine-Westphalia state administration. They are also loud research on sustainable urban development Green spaces and improved building insulation are crucial for the quality of life and environmental compatibility in cities.
The scientific center is also accompanied by a research building, the Center of Mathematics Münster. The completion of the interior work, particularly for laboratory and workshop technology, will probably take just as long as the shell construction. After its completion, the university will move and put it into operation, paving the way for modern and sustainable training and research.
