Future of teacher training: Successful Federal Congress in Hanover!
The 17th Federal Congress of the Centers for Teacher Training and Professional Schools of Education (BuKo 2025) took place from March 26th to 28th, 2025 at the Leibniz University of Hanover. Under the motto "Future (teacher) education! Multidirectional transfer for innovative (teacher) education" numerous actors gathered to discuss the future of teacher education. This was the first time that all teacher training universities in the organizing state took part in this congress, which underlined the importance and reach of the event.
The University of Vechta was represented by Dr. Anna Decker, managing director of the Center for Teacher Training (ZfLB), who also moderated a round table session. She was supported by other representatives of the ZfLB, including Prof. Dr. Monika Angela Budde, Dr. Niels Logemann, head of training at the competence center for regional teacher training, and Dr. Kirsten Rusert. Together they actively contributed to shaping the content of the congress.
Topics and focal points of the congress
The congress highlighted central topics such as the transfer between science and school practice in teacher training. The aim was to strengthen educational and participation processes and to promote future-proof teacher training. In particular, the relevance of knowledge transfer in teacher training was discussed, which is seen as the key to effective and innovative education. Dr. Anna Decker and Dr. Kirsten Rusert explained the “Multilateral and reciprocal transfer in the regional network “Sprachnetz/Netzword”” in their conference contributions.
Another highlight was the lecture by Prof. Dr. Margit Stein, who spoke about the “challenges and potential of teacher training in the context of polarization and religiously based conflicts”. These issues are particularly relevant at times when social tensions are high.
Format and process
The congress was also enriched by diverse formats such as keynote lectures, poster sessions and panel discussions. On the theme day, March 27th, various aspects of transfer in educational practice as well as the role of science communication and educational advice were discussed. Representatives from research, transfer and educational practice came together to exchange ideas and form networks.
In summary, the congress emphasizes the importance of the transfer between science and practice in teacher training and offers a platform for the exchange of ideas and best practices. These structures and development potential could be crucial for designing modern and effective teacher training.
