Graduation ceremony and swear! party: Ulm celebrates the academic year!
On Friday, July 18, 2025, Ulm University will once again hold its academic graduation ceremony on Münsterplatz. This celebration marks the end of the 2024/2025 academic year and will feature a festive program for graduates of bachelor's and master's programs as well as doctoral candidates. The celebration begins at 3:00 p.m., with entry possible from 1:30 p.m. University President Professor Michael Weber and Mayor Martin Ansbacher open the celebrations.
In an appealing format, guests can expect a discussion with students who provide insights into their experiences during their studies. A highlight will be the Ulm Fischerstecher parade, which takes place before the traditional Fischerstegeren on the Danube. The events receive musical accompaniment from a project choir in which members of the university choir and teachers perform together. An emotional highlight will be the throwing of the graduates' hats against the impressive backdrop of Ulm Minster.
A celebration for everyone
The closing ceremony will be moderated by communications expert Natasha Walker and Dominik Schmid, a graduate of the master's program in Sustainable Business Management. Following the academic celebration, all participants are invited to exchange congratulations and take souvenir photos at the so-called Get Together.
Another highlight of the day is the Swear! party, which starts at 7 p.m. This celebration marks the start of the Swearing Weekend, which is celebrated by the Ulm public. DJ Chris Montana, singer-songwriter Jacob Elias and the pop duo Glasperlenspiel will provide musical entertainment. The party is the first of many events that culminate with Schwörmontag, Ulm's “city holiday”.
Ticket information and legal information
Tickets for the ceremony and the swear! party cost 15 euros and are available online. When purchasing the ticket, the buyer also agrees to the use of photos and video recordings as part of Ulm University's press and public relations work. The recordings may be used in unchanged or modified form and passed on to third parties, such as the university foundation or the media, without compensation.
This combination of academic celebration and lively end to the festival is typical of the festival culture in Germany, which is also characterized by numerous music and cultural festivals. These are often held in the summer and offer a wide range of music genres - from jazz to electro and pop. Festivals in Germany are not only an opportunity to spend your free time, but also an important part of the local culture.
Overall, the academic graduation ceremony at Ulm University promises to be an unforgettable experience for graduates and the Ulm community. Uni-Ulm reports that... and Reservix provides information about the ticket details, while Vela offers a broader context to German festival celebrations.
