Einstein Motorsport shines: Ulm team wins 13 trophies in France!
The Einstein Motorsport team from the Ulm University of Technology recently achieved impressive success at the Formula Student France celebrated. On September 16, 2025, the team successfully returned from this international competition, which took place on the test track of the car manufacturer Renault. The route has also been used for autonomous driving tests since 2004 and thus offered a unique setting for the demonstration of innovative technologies.
For the team from Ulm, it was the premiere at Formula Student, one of the most important design competitions for students worldwide. This year they competed in various disciplines together with other German and French teams. Their performance was remarkable: They secured overall victory in the manual driving category and took second place in the overall autonomous ranking. Overall, the team achieved 13 out of 14 possible trophies in the individual rankings.
Challenges and successes
The competition disciplines included both manual driving with a driver and autonomous driving without a driver. The challenges that the students had to face included not only speed and endurance, but also various slalom and curve sections. Prof. Dr. In this context, Volker Reuter, the rector of Ulm University of Technology, praised the students' commitment and creativity.
Jonathan Sackmann, CEO of Einstein Motorsport, highlighted the strong team spirit and effective collaboration in the various disciplines. The team, consisting of over 60 students from Ulm University of Technology, Neu-Ulm University and Ulm University, plans, designs and produces a racing car for Formula Student on its own initiative.
History of the team
Einstein Motorsport was founded in 2006 by students at Ulm University to take part in Formula Student, the largest international design competition for students. In the 2019 season, they achieved their first trophy win and finished 22nd in the world rankings. In 2021, the team launched its first fully electric racing car with a self-developed autonomous system at the Hockenheimring.
The following vehicles, AL 22, AL 23 and AL 24, showed a continuous improvement in performance. In the 2024 season they were able to successfully complete the Endurance, the supreme discipline for testing the reliability of a racing car, for the first time. Now the next significant milestone for the 2025 season is the upgrade of the drive train to an all-wheel drive system.
The Formula Student challenges the team members not only in technical terms, but also in economic planning, which shapes the team's next steps and future perspectives. The entire competition offers students the opportunity to expand their education through practical experience in construction and manufacturing and to consider economic aspects of the automotive industry. Einstein Motorsport remains an exemplary project that combines innovation and teamwork at the highest level.
