Interactive traveling exhibition in Strasbourg: Climate resilience in focus!
On July 31, 2025, the University of Freiburg will provide information about a significant initiative to promote climate adaptation in urban areas. The MobiLab presents an interactive traveling exhibition in Strasbourg entitled “Industrial Urbanity and Climate Resilience”. This exhibition aims to explore urban and ecological change in the Upper Rhine region while addressing the challenges of climate change. Particular attention is paid to adapting to climate change through the model of industrial urbanity, which is intended to stimulate future developments.
The MobiLab focuses on various central topics. These include living soils, governance structures and territorial resilience. Given the ever-increasing challenges such as flooding, unsealing, water and air quality problems and the need for better stormwater infiltration, it is important to develop innovative concepts. Among the concepts presented is the idea of the “Sponge City” and the use of “Sponge Pavements,” both of which aim to effectively manage water and reduce the impact of extreme weather events. Interactive exhibition formats and activities
The traveling exhibition offers an interactive exhibition area with various stations for crisis management. Participants can take part in educational games about carbon footprint and familiarize themselves with climate frescoes and open source tools such as the Landing Game, the Climat Inspector and the Climat Diag. The program is varied: meetings with regional companies are planned in the morning, while bicycle tours and mobile workshops take place in the afternoon. The evening is planned for afterworks, lectures, discussions and musical performances.
The need for resilience to the consequences of climate change is also highlighted by experts. According to information on sustainable-future-city.de shows a variety of extreme events, including heat waves, heavy rain and floods, that urgently require action. Climate projections suggest that such weather events will increase in the future, making the discussion about urban resilience even more urgent.
Urban development and resilience
The conceptual examination of urban resilience includes stress factors such as the change in economic structures as well as social polarization and demographic change. These aspects represent additional challenges for urban development. In order to create a resilient city, the relevant concepts and strategies must be clearly defined and tested in practice.

These diverse approaches and activities through the MobiLab illustrate how important interdisciplinary collaboration and the involvement of the population in the dialogue about sustainable urban development are. The goal remains to make the cities in the Upper Rhine region future-proof and to make them resilient to climate change.
