Consistency in the innovation frenzy: universities and companies united!
The Transferverbund Konstanz, an initiative of the HTWG University of Konstanz, the University of Konstanz and the city of Konstanz, was launched to strengthen Konstanz as an innovation region. This important initiative is being financed by the city of Konstanz and is initially scheduled to run for two years. The overarching goal is to create sustainable structures for the exchange of knowledge, ideas and resources, reports University of Konstanz.
While many companies recognize the benefits of working with universities, there is often a lack of clarity about practical aspects and contact options. In this interface function, Katharina Arendt acts as a transfer manager who provides information, establishes contacts and networks companies. Her role also includes identifying the needs of businesses, universities and the city government to promote the formation of partnerships.
Wide range of cooperation opportunities
Arendt emphasizes that the opportunities for cooperation go beyond the awarding of theses. Excellent research infrastructures are available and research contracts can be awarded. Topics such as artificial intelligence and digitalization, corporate development, transformation processes as well as new work and future skills are currently particularly in demand.
The Lake Constance Graduate School of the HTWG and the Academy for Scientific Continuing Education at the University of Konstanz offer targeted further education opportunities and tailor-made training for companies. These offers are part of the strategy to develop practical solutions to economic challenges and at the same time combat the shortage of skilled workers. The region's innovative strength should be strengthened through targeted matching formats and needs-oriented educational offerings HTWG Constance.
Events and networks
The first transfer dialogue took place on July 11, 2025 in the Lake Constance Forum and was attended by around 50 participants from science, business and administration. Further topic-specific workshops and network meetings are already being planned to promote exchange across disciplines. “Personal exchange is crucial for a successful transfer,” emphasizes Arendt and underlines the importance of close cooperation.
The operational implementation takes place through systematic and coordinated cooperation between the universities and the city of Konstanz. The aim is to use local challenges to generate innovation impulses and to establish a permanent network to strengthen regional innovative strength.
The internationalization of universities in Germany also plays a central role. In 2023, 18,153 international collaborations between 312 universities in Germany were recorded. In order to ensure the attractiveness and competitiveness of the German university location, an internationalization strategy was adopted in 2024. This strategy includes, among other things, the support of mobility and the promotion of European and international university cooperation, such as Federal Ministry of Education and Research explained in detail.
Companies and researchers have the opportunity to contact Katharina Arendt to receive information about cooperation opportunities. She is available at any time via email k.arendt@htwg-konstanz.de reachable.
