Creative children's activities for World Children's Day: Recycling is fun!
On September 26, 2025, exciting MINTfluencer activities took place in Schwäbisch Gmünd and Aalen on the occasion of World Children's Day. Under the motto “Make new from old,” the children had the opportunity to create colorful spinning tops out of shredded plastic buckets. The young participants were later able to take these self-made spinning tops home with them and celebrate their first successes in the field of recycling.
The high number of visitors led to long queues in front of the participation stations. Children operated machines to make the spinning tops and experienced the production process up close. The campaign not only included practical crafting, but also small competitions that further increased the fun factor. Parents were enthusiastic about the combination of sustainability, creativity and entertainment that the MINTfluencers offered.
Focus on sustainability and technology
The MINTfluencer project, which is supported by the PH Schwäbisch Gmünd and the Ostalbkreis, aims to get children, especially girls and educationally disadvantaged young people, enthusiastic about the areas of technology, natural sciences and digitalization. The initiative takes an integrative approach in which measures are networked and implemented in accessible places, such as youth centers. An important element is the peer-to-peer concept, in which children and young people act as influencers in their social groups.
The overarching goal of MINT education is to get children excited about technical and scientific topics at an early age. Early childhood MINT support makes a crucial contribution to children’s cognitive, emotional and social development. By combining theoretical knowledge with practical applications, interest in MINT subjects is increased, which is of great importance for the future viability of society and the economy.
Playful learning and future potential
The actions of the MINTfluencers on World Children's Day show how important creative approaches are in education. STEM education is not just limited to schools; it is also supported by external programs such as “House of Little Researchers” and competitions such as “Jugend forscht”. In Germany, the federal and state governments are investing in the training of specialists in MINT subjects in order to make teaching design practical and to promote cooperation with companies and universities.
Parents can also support their children's enthusiasm for STEM by encouraging curiosity and reducing prejudices. Games and hands-on experiments make learning science and technology a fun and educational experience. STEM toys such as LEGO Technic, programmable robots or chemistry experiments offer valuable opportunities to get children excited about mathematics and science.
In summary, it can be said that the MINTfluencers not only demonstrate sustainable practices with their actions on World Children's Day, but also make an important contribution to strengthening MINT education in the region. The successful day shows the potential that lies in combining fun and learning to promote environmental awareness and enthusiasm for technology in young people.
