Master Psychology new at PH Weingarten: Career opportunities for the region!

The Weingarten University of Education has expanded its range of courses and is launching a new master's degree program in psychology in the winter semester of 2025/26. The new Master of Science in Psychology places a particular focus on learning and counseling psychology. According to a recent Delphi study, 89% of employers in the Lake Constance and Allgäu region are of the opinion that there is a significant need for graduates with this educational background.

The professional fields that await graduates after completing their studies are diverse. This includes learning advice and learning therapy, especially for challenges such as ADHD or dyslexia. Advice for adults, including parenting, couples and conflict counseling, as well as activities in the educational sector, such as scientific journalism or quality assurance, are also on the list. The companies are also looking for experts in human resources development and mental health promotion.

Study content and duration

The curriculum of the master's program covers central topics such as diagnostics, research methods, as well as preventive and interventional approaches to learning and developmental problems. In addition, internships are integrated into the course of your studies in order to gain practical experience and explore different professional fields. The course lasts two years and is limited to 25 places. Interested parties must apply by May 31st of each year and can find further details on the university's website. Professor Dr. Sonja Bieg and Professor Dr. Robert Grassinger is available as a contact person.

In comparison, Apollon University offers a different approach to the master's degree in psychology. This course of study is characterized by a broad basis of psychological knowledge and methodological skills, with a focus on counseling psychology. The modules combine theoretical knowledge directly with application in everyday consulting, which significantly increases the practical relevance.

Students can choose two of six compulsory elective modules, including topics such as clinical psychology in children and adolescents or legal psychology. This flexibility allows you to adapt your studies to your personal interests and career goals. Both pure online studies and traditional distance learning are possible, with online studies offering the option of paperless study documents.

Career prospects and salary

The career prospects for psychology graduates are promising. They can be used in various areas, such as healthcare, educational psychology or psychological research. The areas of business psychology, personnel psychology and organizational psychology are in demand in the private sector. The salary varies depending on the region and industry, but on average is between 36,000 and 44,000 euros gross annually, with top salaries up to 60,000 euros.
