New university music director in Stuttgart: Jakob Brenner takes over!
Jakob Brenner will be in charge of university music as university music director in the summer semester of 2025 University of Stuttgart take over. Brenner, an up-and-coming conductor of his generation, previously studied at the University of Music and Theater in Munich and graduated with honors.
His musical career began in 2013 as musical director at the Theater der Altmark in Stendal. From 2016 to 2025, Brenner worked as first conductor at the Chemnitz Opera House. During this time he acquired a broad, epoch-spanning repertoire in the field of musical theater and concerts, which includes, among others, works by Mozart, Rossini, Humperdinck, Bizet and Zimmermann. Brenner has achieved national recognition for productions such as Boito's *Mefistofele* and has conducted numerous German premieres, including Boyer's *Silver Fanfare* and Horner's *Pas de deux*.
Concert dates and rehearsals
As part of his new position at the University of Stuttgart, Brenner will organize several concert events. The planned concert dates in the summer semester are:

Rehearsals for the Academic Choir take place every Tuesday from 7:15 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. in lecture hall 17.01 on the Stadtmitte campus (Keplerstraße 17). The Academic Orchestra rehearses on Thursdays from 7:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the same location.
Commitment to music education
In addition to his work as a conductor, Brenner is also involved in music education. He has designed his own educational formats and regularly holds concerts aimed at young people. This reflects his interest in the combination of classical and contemporary music, whereby he seeks new repertoire approaches, particularly at the interface between rock, pop, jazz and classical music.
In addition to his new position in Stuttgart, he continues to be valued for his arrangements. Brenner has worked for ZDF, the Munich Radio Orchestra and the WDR Funkhausorchester, among others, and was responsible for the premiere recording of Supppé's operetta *The Devil on Earth* in 2018.
The introduction of the new master's degree program “Music Education” at the University of Music and Theater in Munich, which will be offered from the winter semester 2025/26, also contributes to contemporary music education. This course of study is the newest offering in German-speaking countries and responds to the needs of a culturally diverse society. Students acquire skills in music education and can choose between different profiles, including concert design, curation & leadership and music education as a science.
