New semester, new happiness: Fresher semester highlights in Stuttgart!

The University of Stuttgart warmly welcomes its new students. A variety of offers and support measures are available to support first-year students as they start their studies. The introductory week is scheduled for the period from October 6th to 12th, 2025, with the highlight being the first semester welcome “Avete Academici” on Monday, October 6th. In addition to the welcome, a comprehensive orientation program for international students and the buddy program “ready.study.stuttgart” are offered to make the start easier for new students. The university emphasizes the desire for a positive start to studies and offers video instructions on digital services that are accessible to everyone.

The official start of lectures for the winter semester is on Monday, October 13, 2025. It is advisable to check the introductory dates regularly, as they are continually updated. The student representative stuvus is also available to offer support and answer questions from new members. These measures are intended to help new students find their way quickly and easily in their new environment.

Introductory events for study orientation

At the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg (FAU), the introductory events for new students begin at the end of September, even if the official semester times stipulate a start in October. The start of lectures in the winter semester 2025/26 also falls on Monday, October 13, 2025.

As part of the introductory events, there will be an introductory day “Welcome on board!” offered online for first-year students on October 6th. Further repeat dates are planned for October 10th and 31st, 2025. The Central Student Advisory Service also offers online information events that provide important information for starting your studies.

Participation in these events is recommended, even if it is not mandatory. Students should also familiarize themselves with their subject examination regulations and their module schedules. If you have organizational questions, new students can contact the ZSB for assistance.

Study start aid for financial support

Many first-year students could also benefit from the study start aid, which is offered to new students under the age of 25 from communities of need or with comparable social benefits. This assistance applies to initial enrollments at universities and enables students to reduce financial burdens.

Students who take part in preliminary courses should apply for study start aid directly at the start of the course. The authorizations are tied to certain social benefits, such as citizen's benefit or social assistance.

Applications for study start aid will be submitted electronically via BAföG Digital from September 2, 2024, and the deadlines are clearly defined. The one-off grant is 1,000 euros and is intended in particular for study-related expenses, such as IT equipment or teaching materials. It is also advisable to submit a BAföG application, as many people who are eligible may also be eligible for BAföG, which means additional financial support.
