Revolution in the classroom: New paths with resonance pedagogy!

The “ResoLut” (resonance-oriented teaching and learning) project will start on September 9, 2025, which brings together four universities from three countries to develop, test and evaluate teaching and learning concepts. The project is funded by the EU Erasmus+ program for a period of three years. The aim is to reduce alienation and disadvantage in the school context. PH Karlsruhe reports that resonance pedagogy is the key to these new approaches by understanding teaching as a relational space and focusing on the social-emotional interaction between students, teachers and educational content.

The project partners, which include the Karlsruhe University of Education (Germany) as project management as well as the State Academy of Applied Sciences in Nysa (Poland), the Carinthia University of Education (Austria) and the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (Germany), pursue the goal of strengthening the quality of education through increased social-emotional interactions. The lessons, which are designed using resonance pedagogy, will be based on the interests and life situations of the students.

Innovative teaching-learning concepts and school collaborations

As part of the project, new teaching and learning concepts are being tested at cooperation schools, which act both as model schools and as sources of inspiration. Teachers at these schools are involved in the development process of the concepts. This is done through joint working groups and workshops that enable active exchange between teachers and students.

A central measure of the project will be the integration of the new concepts into teacher training and further education at the participating universities and teacher training centers. A curriculum is developed that describes the resonance pedagogical principles, objectives and methods in order to familiarize teacher training students and practicing teachers with these concepts.

Resonance pedagogy in context

Resonance pedagogy itself, as described by Hartmut Rosa, key points from his analysis “Resonance: A Sociology of World Relations”, has developed as a response to the challenges of modern society. Rosa examines how people's relationships with the world are characterized by alienation, which manifests itself in psychological and physical illnesses such as depressive burnout. His book “Resonance Pedagogy”, published by Beltz in 2016, addresses how schools can become resonance spaces. The term “transformation” plays a central role here and describes personal encounters with learning content.

Rosa advocates for an educational architecture that rediscovers the desire for resonance and focuses on the emotional quality of resonance experiences. These approaches are in line with the challenges that also exist in modern schools, where indifference and resistance can be observed among students. This is discussed in detail in the teachers' literature, including in many positive reviews of the book, which offer suggestions for redesigning educational processes.

Overall, it shows that the “ResoLut” project not only addresses current problems in education, but also puts the theoretical foundations of resonance education into practice. This could lead to a partial paradigm shift in schools.
