Coping with stress during your studies: Worry LESS, LIMIT Stress” campaign day inspires!
On March 9, 2025, the “Worry LESS, LIMIT Stress” action day took place at the Schwäbisch Gmünd University of Education, which was organized by students of the bachelor's degree program in Health Promotion and Prevention. This day was entirely dedicated to the topic of dealing with stress in everyday student life. Given the high academic pressure and diverse challenges students face, stress management has become an important skill.
Students often experience a variety of stresses, which are exacerbated by exam pressure, attendance requirements and the balance between studies and private life. Social media and economic uncertainty also contribute to mental health being affected. These findings are supported by a study that shows that 20-33% of students suffer from mental disorders and 25% express suicidal thoughts. This highlights the importance of taking steps to promote mental health.
Action day offers valuable impulses
During the day of action, participants received impulses and approaches to deal with stress individually. The action stands offered insights into the causes of stress, regeneration strategies and proven coping mechanisms. Interactive activities such as the “stress scale” enabled students to reflect on their own stress levels and improve their own stress management. Student teacher Josefine took this opportunity to specifically work on her stress management, especially before the upcoming exam period.
The content of the action day was developed in a seminar led by Ines Schröder, where theoretical and evidence-based approaches were translated into an attractive format. What was important here was the cooperation with the Student Health Management (SGM) project team. The results of a student survey from 2024 were also incorporated into the planning and implementation of the day.
Evaluation and future measures
The evaluation of the action day showed that stress management is an increasingly important topic for students. Madlen Götz, the SGM project coordinator, emphasized the important contribution to health promotion and the need to specifically address individual stress experiences. These findings should be incorporated into future SGM measures in order to sustainably promote the health of students.
The need for effective time management strategies and self-care is becoming increasingly clear. In order to support students' mental health, educational campaigns, the expansion of counseling services and peer support groups are essential. This also includes integrating mental health into the curriculum to create a healthy study atmosphere that promotes student well-being.
The “Worry LESS, LIMIT Stress” action day is a positive example of how universities can actively contribute to supporting the mental health of their students. Today's challenges require increased attention to the social and psychological well-being of students.
