The loss of the right to take the exam

The loss of the right to take exams in the current course of study is a serious problem for many students. However, such a loss does not necessarily mean that your studies are completely over. According to the University of Tübingen, there is usually still the option to study in another department. However, it is important that the new subject should be close in content to the previous subject. Formalities such as major or minor can also have an impact on the change.

The university or the new course of study ultimately decides on the possible change. However, before a decision is made, a comprehensive analysis of the individual situation should be carried out. Difficulties in studying can have various causes, including difficulties starting and adjusting, time and self-management problems or even personal stress.

Support when changing your course of study

The decision to change your course of study should not be made without thought. The university offers comprehensive consulting services to help students analyze the causes and develop appropriate strategies to improve study conditions. For this purpose, specialist study advisors and mentors can be contacted who will provide information about the requirements and organization of the studies.

It is particularly important for BAföG recipients to contact the responsible educational support office in good time before changing their course of study. If a change is not completed by the end of the fourth semester, BAföG funding can be stopped. The change should therefore be carefully considered and initiated in good time in order to avoid difficulties during the further course of your studies.

For anyone who has questions about a possible change or loss of the right to take exams, the University of Stuttgart offers online advice in order to develop individual solutions. Further information on the topic is available on the respective universities' websites, including on the website of University of Stuttgart, University of Tübingen and RWTH Aachen.
