On June 12, 2025, the annual city cycling event took place again in Stuttgart, which highlights bicycle mobility in the city and shows progress and areas for improvement. The University of Stuttgart took part in this initiative for the third time in a row and took an impressive second place overall. Promote sustainable mobility

The goals of the campaign are clear: they promote the joy of cycling and make the needs of cyclists in Germany visible. Around 3,000 municipalities and districts nationwide take part in this important event. The overall awareness of sustainable mobility is strongly anchored, both among the university's employees and students, who are actively committed to environmentally friendly mobility.

An important aspect of this initiative is the importance of safe cycling infrastructure. Experts estimate that up to 30% of car journeys in metropolitan areas could be shifted to cycling. That too Federal Environment Agency emphasizes improving cycling conditions as an essential task in order to relieve both the environment and the quality of life in cities.

Health Benefits of Cycling

Cycling not only has positive effects on the environment, but also on personal health. Regular cycling can reduce the risk of lifestyle diseases and increase the quality of life. A commuter who cycles 5 km can save around 365 kg of CO2 emissions annually. In addition, the number of days absent from work is reduced: cycling employees miss an average of one day less per year than their non-cycling colleagues.

In order to further promote cycling, measures such as a continuous cycle network, modern bicycle parking facilities and attractive service offerings are essential. The University of Stuttgart is planning to create a further incentive in the coming season to encourage more cyclists to enter their kilometers. This commitment underlines that sustainable mobility is not only a necessity, but also a way of life that must be designed for future generations.
