Tübingen University Association celebrates 100 years of success for students!
The University of Tübingen receives with the support of University Association new outdoor furniture to be placed in front of the university library. Professor Dr. Dr. h.c. Karla Pollmann, the university's rector, expressed her gratitude for the financial help made possible by member donations. These donations benefit not only the students, but also doctoral candidates and researchers and support both research and teaching.
The main aim of the University Association's fundraising campaigns is to promote the university's excellence status and to strengthen its role as an important research location in the region. An outstanding example of the University Association's commitment is the financing of the fountain in front of the New Auditorium, which was realized on the occasion of the association's 75th anniversary. These fountains have been a campus landmark since the university's 525th anniversary in 2002.
100th anniversary celebrations
This year he is celebrating University Association of Tübingen its 100th anniversary. Founded on January 20, 1924, the university's support association is dedicated to supporting research, education and students. Under the motto “Promoting instead of celebrating”, the association invites you to a fundraising year dedicated to the redesign of the university library’s lending center.
In its long history, the University Association has mastered various challenges, including the period of National Socialist tyranny, and always upheld its democratic statutes. In the last two decades, the association has invested over 5.3 million euros in various funding projects. These include, among other things, the construction of fountains on the Zwilling-Scholl-Platz and the purchase of a Steinway grand piano in the university's ballroom.
Diverse funding activities
The University Association supports a variety of activities, ranging from individual projects such as media lectures and special exhibitions to university sports tournaments and public events such as the Children's University and Mathematics Day. In addition, student excursions, travel costs for conferences and participation in competitions are subsidized, which promotes equal opportunities and mobility for students.
An important part of the funding are the doctoral prizes, which are awarded annually and which in the future will also include the teaching prize and a special prize for student commitment. Since 2011, the University Association has also been the largest individual sponsor of the Germany scholarships, with over 1.7 million euros benefiting more than 900 students.
In addition, the University Association manages 26 foundations that provide funds for various institutes and specialist disciplines. The financially strongest foundation awards the renowned Dr. Leopold Lucas Prize and a Young Scientist Prize.
The rector of the university, Professor Dr. Dr. h.c. Karla Pollmann, emphasizes the important role of the university association for the strategic goals of the university. In the anniversary year, the association plans to collect additional donations for the redesign of the lending center. Donations can be made via the University of Tübingen website and sustainably support the university in its valuable work.
