In addition to the knowledge week program, a straw building symposium is also organized at KIT. The aim is to show ecological construction approaches and the potential of straw in the construction industry. The event is aimed at specialist planners, architects, students and executing companies.

Sustainability in science

The symposium promotes commitment to sustainable construction methods. The focus is particularly on questions about the use of straw as a building material from building class 4 as well as the necessary legal framework for its broader use. The event concludes with an exhibition “Building with Straw – Basics”, which opens up new perspectives for participants.

In parallel to these initiatives, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) supports a culture of innovation for sustainability at universities and research institutions. The “Sustainability in Science” initiative promotes the transformation of these institutions to a more sustainable approach. Students are invited to actively participate in climate neutrality projects at their universities and to develop new approaches in the area of low-emission mobility management and resource-saving procurement.

With over 35 universities involved, this initiative aims to promote important activities in the science system and support transdisciplinary research. These approaches are intended to provide real solutions to sustainability challenges and raise awareness of the need for an ecological mindset.

With the NEULAND knowledge week and the straw building symposium, KIT actively contributes to these current topics and opens up space for exciting discussions and innovations.
