Future under the stars: Stuttgart invites you to the international congress!

The international future congress “Where Science meets Fiction” will take place at the University of Stuttgart on June 4th and 5th, 2025. The event, which is organized by Next Frontiers gUG in cooperation with the IZKT of the University of Stuttgart and the Stuttgart City Library, is aimed at a broad audience. The aim is to promote exchange between science, industry, politics and creative minds. University of Stuttgart reports that the state capital Stuttgart and the Economic Development Region Stuttgart GmbH also support the event.

The congress starts on June 4th at 7 p.m. with an opening evening in the Stuttgart City Library. There the participants will hear a lecture by Prof. Oliver Bendel from the Northern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences. This will be followed by a conversation with Eva Braslavsky on the topic of “Human 2.0: The vision of the universal robot”. This opening creates a connection between scientific theories and futuristic concepts early on. Next Frontiers highlights the importance of exchanging ideas, knowledge and perspectives in current times.

Variety of programs and workshops

An outstanding element of the congress is the Science Slam, which will take place on June 5th from 3 p.m. in the open-air Science Dome. Young scientists have the opportunity to present their work, while science fiction authors give reactions to their future scenarios. Audience participation is actively organized by allowing visitors to choose the best slam.

In addition, an XR experience worth experiencing is offered. A stranded UFO causes amazement in the inner courtyard of Keplerstrasse 17. Here, visitors can immerse themselves in this virtual world using extended reality headsets. Against this background, a workshop entitled “The Science of the Future” will also take place on June 5th at 2 p.m. in Café Faust.

The core program of the congress begins on June 5th from 10 a.m. in the depth lecture halls 17.01 and 17.02. A final panel at 5:30 p.m. will examine the topic “The future between science, crafts and art”. Participants will also gain insights into the Stuttgart start-up scene, with companies such as “Perosol” and “Cyclize” being present. University of Stuttgart explains that the congress also serves as a platform for creative ideas and changes in perspective to address the challenges of our time.

Participation and costs

Participants can look forward to a free open-air program as well as workshops, access to which is also free of charge. Tickets for the core program and for the “Das Gutbrod” area are available for 60 euros (30 euros reduced price). Students and members of the University of Stuttgart have the opportunity to receive a limited number of free tickets.

The “Next Frontiers” congress creates an important platform for the exchange of forward-looking ideas and approaches. Given the many challenges of our time, the quality of the future is largely determined by the ideas developed there, which impressively underlines the motto of this event.
