Technology Future Day: Students discover exciting MINT careers!

On July 10, 2025, the first “Future Technology Day” took place at the PH Schwäbisch Gmünd. Here, 70 students from the ninth grades of the Parler High School were able to discover their enthusiasm for technical careers. The future day was organized by the technology department and was led by Dr. Friederike Wolf. The program included numerous everyday and action-oriented learning adventures.

A central element of the program were various workshops that enabled young people to actively participate. A special highlight was the “Unlock It!” project, in which participants made aluminum bottle openers in the metal workshop. In the wood workshop they could use the motto “Wood You Turn?” create your own wooden handles. These two parts were connected in the “Two worlds, one handle” workshop.

Diverse workshops

Another focus was on modern technologies in the makerspace. Here the young people had the opportunity to try out CNC milling, laser engraving and CAD software. The environmental protection issue was also not neglected, as a spinning top was produced from recycled plastic in cooperation with Plasticpreneurs. The day culminated in a competition in the “Blade Arena”, in which the self-made spinning tops had to compete against each other.

In addition, a soldering course took place in which the young people learned to solder simple electrical circuits and were allowed to take their results home with them. The program also introduced the world of programming: Under the guidance of Florian Wengert, the participants were able to program small battle robots and test them in competition.

Special features and future prospects

The workshop “ATTENTION: TOP SECRET!” gave an exciting insight into the secrets of chemistry, in which participants produced secret inks and searched for chemical traces. The workshop “Trust me, I’m a headline!?” complemented the offer by teaching strategies for checking the truth and identifying fake news, led by Philippos Tsavalakoglou.

The Future Technology Day 2025 was part of a larger program that will be continued next year. The next Future Day will take place on April 3, 2025 and will once again offer the opportunity to experience MINT careers up close and immerse yourself in future-oriented technologies. Companies, universities and institutions will open their doors to discover new talent and provide comprehensive insights into the fields of technology, computer science, science and engineering. Further information about the offers from MINT:ZE cooperation partners will be provided in a timely manner, which is why regular visits to the website are recommended so as not to miss anything.

The educational institutes and the PH Schwäbisch Gmünd are providing important impetus to inspire the next generation for technical careers and to show them the opportunities that MINT careers offer. How mint-ze.de reports, the focus is not only on practical skills, but also on promoting interdisciplinary thinking, which is of crucial importance in today's world.
