Bamberg events in April: Experience geography, the Orient and music!

On April 24, 2025, two important colloquia will begin at the University of Bamberg, which will shed light on both current research questions and historical perspectives. The Bavarian Oriental Colloquium and the Geographical Colloquium offer interested citizens and scientists the opportunity to take part in free lectures.

The Bavarian Oriental Colloquium starts at 6:15 p.m. in the lecture hall SP17/00.13 at Schillerplatz 17, with a lecture by the renowned speaker Dr. Azadeh Zamirirad from the Science and Politics Foundation in Berlin. The topic of his lecture, “Theocracy in Transition: Discursive Norm Shifts in the Islamic Republic of Iran,” will address critical discourses about the political order and the role of religion in Iran.

Geographical colloquium

At the same time, the Geographical Colloquium will take place in lecture hall KR12/02.18 at Am Kranen 12, also at 6:15 p.m. Prof. Dr. Julia Meister from the University of Bamberg will give a lecture entitled “Human-environment interactions in the ancient Egyptian Nile Delta: Geoarchaeological perspectives”. Her focus is on geoarchaeological investigations in the ancient city of Bubastis and their importance for understanding human-environment interactions in antiquity.

Semester opening concert

Just a few days later, on April 27, 2025, the summer semester will open with a special musical event. The Semester opening concert will take place at 5:00 p.m. in the auditorium of the University of Bamberg, Dominikanerstraße 2a. The program includes works by Bach, Haydn and Mozart.

Under the direction of University Music Director Wilhelm Schmidts, the soprano Anna Nesyba will perform together with the trumpeter Sebastian Hensiek. The ticket price for the concert is 15 euros, concessions 10 euros, and tickets are available both online and at the box office.

All three events are accessible free of charge and are aimed at a broad audience. This is not only an opportunity for further training, but also an important contribution to promoting cultural exchange in the region.
