Journalism has a new, exciting face: Bedford-Strohm, a talented graduate of the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt (KU), was recently honored in “Medium Magazine”. This honor, which was published in issue 3/2025, is aimed at journalists who shape and shape the industry. Bedford-Strohm is now one of the outstanding talents selected from 420 nominees in 2025.
His goal is to create bolder documentaries to particularly reach younger viewers. Since May 2022, he has been part of the team for format development and innovation at Bayerischer Rundfunk, where he works at the interface between journalism, visual design and dramaturgy of documentary material for streaming. Bedford-Strohm brings fresh ideas to the ever-changing media landscape and could thus play a pioneering role.
A young talent in journalism
The award from “Medium Magazin” is not the only recognition for the graduates of Eichstätter Journalism. In the past, other graduates such as Lara Thiede, Fabian Scheler and Paul Middelhoff were also listed in the “Top 30 under 30”. This illustrates the strength and reputation of the course at the KU.
In the area of media education, Bayerischer Rundfunk is currently looking for creative, curious and critical minds for a traineeship. The training begins in March 2026 and lasts two years. The application phase runs from July 1st to August 28th, 2025, whereby a clear decision between volunteering and regional volunteering is required. The latter is aimed specifically at applicants with regional roots in areas such as Upper Palatinate, Main Franconia or Swabia.
Traineeship at Bayerischer Rundfunk
The internship offers in-depth training in quality journalism with a clear focus on digital content and young target groups. The aspiring journalists complete various editorial stays and take part in seminars. They are prepared for multimedia work, thorough research and responsibility.
The remuneration during the traineeship is also attractive: in the first half of the year, volunteers receive €2,503, in the second half of the year €2,741, and from the third half of the year the payment increases to €2,920. The requirements for applying include curiosity, openness and an interest in political, social or cultural issues. A degree is not absolutely necessary, but initial journalistic experience should be available.
For anyone who is interested, there is a clearly structured selection process that includes reviewing CVs, work samples and creative, journalistic tasks, followed by an assessment center in Munich.
