Boeing and TUM: New paths for research and innovation in Munich!
On March 27, 2025, the Technical University of Munich (TUM) announced that Boeing has become a new member of the TUM Industry Engagement Program (IEP). This inclusion represents a significant step for both institutions, as the IEP offers companies direct access to TUM's extensive ecosystem. Dr. Michael Haidinger, President of Boeing Germany, Central and Eastern Europe, underlines the importance of this long-standing strategic partnership.
The IEP has set itself the goal of identifying common interests between researchers and companies in order to open up areas of innovation and promote talent. The program is particularly aimed at national and international companies that are interested in strategic collaboration with TUM.
Collaboration and research
TUM and Boeing have also extended their research framework agreement, which forms the basis for intensive collaboration. Prof. Gerhard Kramer, TUM Vice President for Research and Innovation, emphasizes that TUM is driving forward the development of Europe's largest department for aerospace and geodesy. TUM's expertise in these areas fits well with Boeing's ambitions to be integrated into the IEP as a globally successful player.
As part of the program, existing collaboration in the areas of lightweight construction and robotics will be continued. In addition, a new Smart Drilling Cell will be set up at TUM. In this new research facility, TUM scientists and Boeing employees will work together on innovative solutions.
Goals and visions
The IEP has the overarching goal of addressing current challenges and anticipating future industry needs. It supports companies of all sizes in expanding their innovation pipeline and establishing strategic partnerships. By networking with leading experts and scientific talents at TUM, companies are given access to valuable knowledge and inspiration.
The focus of the program is on the development of technical solutions, which are developed in collaboration with TUM experts. The integration of economy, ecology, health and innovative processes is considered essential in order to sustainably solve social problems.
In summary, the integration of Boeing into the TUM Industry Engagement Program is a key event that not only strengthens the position of both organizations, but also makes a significant contribution to promoting innovative technologies.
