Diversity Science Slam: Diverse topics and exciting projects in Passau!

On May 27, 2025, the University of Passau will once again make its contribution to the nationwide Diversity Day and host an event entitled “Diversity Science Slam”. The event starts at 6 p.m. and takes place in room ITZ 017 (Innstr. 43) and online via Zoom. The slam is organized by the Diversity and Equality Office, which presents projects and topics related to diversity. This year, interesting and important topics such as education about sign language, dealing with ADHD in everyday study life and the representation of gender and sexuality in films and series are on the agenda.

The event aims to promote awareness of diversity issues and create a space for the exchange of ideas. Those interested are asked to contact diversity@uni-passau.de to register. A highlight of the event will be the Second Science Slam Diversity on May 28, 2024, which will take place in the same room from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Eight slammers will present research contributions related to diversity. The competition, which is about fame, honor and the favor of the audience, will be broadcast via Zoom and will also offer simultaneous translation into English. This enables a broader public to experience and engage with the non-discriminatory content.

Child care is also available for families, but this must also be registered in advance. Participants can register via Stud.IP with number 62306. Further information is available on the University of Passau website.

Diversity as a central topic

The importance of diversity and equal opportunities is not only an important topic in science, but also in everyone's everyday life. According to the German Research Foundation, equal opportunities and an appreciative and respectful environment are crucial for success and participation in society. The DFG advocates for framework conditions that offer equal opportunities for everyone, regardless of gender, origin or other personal characteristics. These principles are also the basis for events at universities and research institutions in order to promote diversity and enable inclusive cooperation.

The “Diversity Science Slam” at the University of Passau not only represents a celebration of diversity, but also a strong commitment to the values that are becoming increasingly important in current research and teaching. By presenting projects that have the potential to raise awareness, an important contribution is made to promoting an inclusive society.
