Successful Ghana Spring School impresses with Legal Tech in Passau!
The Ghana Spring School 2025 took place from April 28th to May 9th at the University of Passau. This initiative was led by Prof. Dr. Nora Nahr and her team from the Professorship for Legal Informatics, who are intensively involved in the area of natural language processing, especially in legal contexts. The event was attended by numerous students from the School of Law at the University of Ghana, who had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the latest developments in the field of legal tech.
The school's overall motto was “Legal Tech.” In this context, the participants gained insights into various topics. This included the application of natural language processing and explainable artificial intelligence in law, as well as the implications of AI for copyright law. The automation of legal activities through the use of robots was also discussed. A central point was the consideration of ethical principles when using legal tech tools.
Comprehensive program
The specialist program included a large number of lectures by professors from the University of Passau. These scientific contributions were supplemented by networking events and social program items that gave students the opportunity to establish relationships and get to know local conditions better. The highlights included visits to the university itself, the city of Passau and the Noerr law firm in Munich.
The Ghana Spring School is the result of a “Memorandum of Understanding” between the University of Ghana and the University of Passau, which is intended to promote exchange and cooperation in legal informatics. This initiative goes to Prof. Dr. Moritz Hennemann, who organized a conference on international data law in Accra in 2022.
