Europe Week 2025: A celebration of democracy and creative ideas!

Europe Week 2025 at University of Passau will take place from May 5th to 9th this year. The theme "Protecting Democracy. Shaping Europe" is being held this week as a special celebration to mark the 75th anniversary of the Schuman Speech, which launched the creation of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC). The aim of Europe Week is to show the university's diverse European profile and to emphasize European responsibility.

The Europe Week program includes a variety of events that include both academic and social discourse. Visitors can look forward to a traveling exhibition entitled “EU on tour – The EU at a glance”. This will take place from May 5th to 9th in the foyer of the Faculty of Business and Economics and will address the fundamentals, institutions and current challenges of the EU.

Diverse events

A highlight of the week is the climate puzzle workshop, which will take place on May 5th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Nikolakloster SR 412a. The aim of this workshop is to convey the scientific basis of climate change. On the same day, the EU Youth Cinema will also take place in the Scharfrichter Kino at 8 p.m., where everything revolves around the EU and environmental policy in the form of short films.

Europe Week also offers creative opportunities to engage with European identity. A creative workshop “We are Europe!” will take place on May 7th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Große Klingergasse 2a. Participants can express their personal view of Europe through creative writing and collages.

On May 8th, a hands-on workshop entitled “Stammtischparolen” will be held from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Nikolakloster R 401 / R 402. Dialogue and the development of ideas for further European actions are central here. At the same time, all public events are open to interested parties and media representatives, so that broad participation is encouraged.

Supplementary programs and discussions

The University of Flensburg is offering a hands-on exhibition entitled “Between Fear and Hope” throughout the week. This will also take place from May 5th to 9th in the HEL Foyer and offers space for emotions as well as options for action on political and social challenges.

Furthermore, a seminar with the topic “The Future of Migration to Europe – Between Fear and Hope” will be held on May 7th from 8:15 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. in HEL 065. Anna Kompatscher's lecture will deal with future visions of European migration policy.

A project presentation topic entitled “Utopia and Dystopia – a workshop report from a trinational project” will be presented on the same day by Prof. Dr. Jörn Bockmann presented in HEL 066. The event deals with the results of a trinational seminar and announces a summer school 2026 in Flensburg.

Career opportunities and cultural events

A career information event entitled “Working for the EU: EPSO – European Personnel Selection Office” will take place on May 7th from 10:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. in HEL 160 and online. Anyone interested can find out everything about career opportunities at the EU institutions here. In another event, Markus Tschan will address the question of opportunities and paths to a career in the EU.
