Big musical project at the KU: The Journey of the Companions” inspires!
The comprehensive musical project “The Journey of the Companions” was celebrated in a festive closing ceremony that took place on August 1, 2025 in the cafeteria of the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt. Around 70 participants, including students, primary school children as well as instrumentalists and helpers, had rehearsed for months for the event. The two initiators of the project, KU student Pauline Georgiev and music lecturer Andreas Kehr, demonstrated the full range of creative talents with this impressive conclusion.
The musical, which premiered on Friday in the Neuburg City Theater, addresses important aspects of human interaction, environmental awareness and peace. The main character, Lif, is a child who loses his parents in a conflict and is raised by his grandmother. This not only brings him closer to nature, but also teaches him how to communicate with it. After the death of her grandmother, Lif embarks on an emotional journey to her roots — a process that also touches on difficult topics such as domestic violence and the destruction of creation.
Symbolic donation handover
A highlight of the closing ceremony was the symbolic donation presentation, during which a sum of 10,000 euros was presented for charitable purposes. Half of this sum, i.e. 5,000 euros, was handed over to the Neuburg Elisa association, which takes care of family aftercare for children with serious, chronic and cancer illnesses. Simone Haftel was able to accept the donation and praised the initiative as a valuable contribution to supporting affected families.
The other half of 5,000 euros went to the Caritas Children's Village Marienstein in Eichstätt. Brigitte Radeljic-Jakic accepted the donation and emphasized the importance of such projects. This financial support is not only an expression of solidarity, but also helps to improve the living conditions of children in need of help.
Creative collaboration and strong messages
The musical was staged by a dedicated team, with the music performed live by an eight-piece band. Directed by Philipp Thomas and Leon Glaube, while the stage design was designed by the Musical-Kunst-AG of the Maria-Ward-Realschule Neuburg. The intensive collaboration of everyone involved over a year of rehearsals ensured that the performance was not only technically exquisite, but also emotionally moving.
The plot of The Journey of the Companions conveys strong messages about community, nature, helpfulness and love. Lif meets various companions on her journey, including the characters Silas and Fin, who are equally important to her development. The impressive scene staging and music left a lasting impression on the audience.
With the successful premiere and the positive response from the audience, the musical project at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt will continue to represent many creative moments and important social concerns in the future. donaukurier.de states that the remaining performances sold out quickly, although some tickets may be available at the door.
Project funding for similar initiatives is also possible in the form of municipal or private commitments. The dkhw.de points out that children and young people, citizens' initiatives and non-profit organizations can apply for funds to realize cultural projects. This shows how important it is to promote and support creative and youth initiatives.
Overall, the musical project reflects both the creative possibilities at KU and the commitment of the students and community. It not only creates entertainment, but also promotes social responsibility and solidarity in the region.
