University elections 2025: Submit nominations now and get involved!

The Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg (FAU) is calling on all members to submit nominations for the upcoming university elections. The submission period extends from April 23 to May 6, 2025. The elections themselves are scheduled for June 4 to 12, 2025. In addition to students, FAU employees and doctoral candidates are also eligible to vote. The coming elections are particularly notable because they will be held exclusively electronically for the first time.

The committees to be elected include the senate, the faculty councils, the appointment council for the theology department, the student council and the student councils. The term of office of the newly elected members begins on October 1, 2025 and lasts two years for committee members and one year for students and doctoral candidates. With electronic voting, there will be no possibility of postal voting, which represents a fundamental change in the electoral process. This decision follows the trend of digitalization and is intended to make the choice easier and more accessible.

Electoral modalities and processes

The elections will be held via the FAU election portal online-wahlen.fau.de carried out. The voting period is valid until 9 a.m. on the last election day, June 12, 2025. Those eligible to vote will receive an election notification, which will be available via the election portal in mid-May. An activated FAU-IdM ID is required to take part in the election. People who have not yet activated their IdM account will receive their election notification in paper form.

The election is modified in that voters receive two lists of votes: for the Student Convention and for the Faculty Council. The following distribution of votes is available to voters: 15 votes for the Student Convention and 4 votes for the Faculty Council. Voters have the opportunity to choose a list, with the votes being distributed proportionally among the candidates on the chosen list until the maximum number of votes is reached. Unused votes will be forfeited if there are fewer candidates than votes.

It is also planned that the University Election Compass will be published at the end of May to provide further information about the candidates and their lists. Detailed information about the election and the committees is available on the election office and student representation websites.
