Inclusion in schools: New impulses for teacher training in Bavaria!
The lecture series “Basic Competencies Inclusion BAS!S 2.0” will take place at the University of Passau in the summer semester of 2025. This series focuses on the topics of inclusion, heterogeneity and talent development in a school context. In a current expert report on the further development of Bavarian teacher training, the high relevance of these topics was emphatically emphasized. The next lecture is planned for July 8th and is dedicated to the topic of inclusive German lessons. The content of the lecture series offers various professional perspectives on diversity and inclusion, which are essential for future teachers in order to meet the different needs of students. According to the University of Passau, inclusion is a core task for teachers of all types of schools.
The demands on teachers are increasing as society becomes more and more diverse. Schools are obliged to give all students the same right to education and participation. Teachers must therefore acquire specialist knowledge during their training in order to deal with heterogeneity in classrooms. Curricula and practical exercises are intended to enable teacher training students to show appreciation for all students. An important aspect here is the “Quality Offensive for Teacher Training” (QLB) program, which aims to prepare students for the challenges in education in a practical manner and to integrate inclusion and heterogeneity into the education system.
Diversity and inclusion in the education system
The terms heterogeneity, diversity and variety include social and national origin, religion, culture, health, gender and sexual identity. Inclusive education aims to ensure that all children learn together without being stereotyped. Political demands for inclusion have triggered a paradigm shift in schools, which is supported by projects such as the “Dortmund Profile for Inclusion-Oriented Teacher Training” (DoProfiL). This project aims to restructure teacher training and developed teaching-learning formats for future teachers.
The Technical University of Dortmund has already created the necessary institutional structures and developed further qualification offers for university lecturers. QLB projects use digital capabilities to create inclusive teaching-learning materials. For example, a digital self-learning tool called “Fundus Inklusion” was developed at the Technical University of Dresden. These digital tools play an increasingly important role in the training of teachers and promote exchange between universities.
Public lecture series with expert input
The public lecture series at the University of Passau is aimed not only at students, but also at teachers who can have this training recognized, as well as anyone interested. The lectures take place every Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in lecture hall 6 of the Faculty of Economics. During the series, renowned experts will speak on various topics. Professor Dr. Eva Stumpf from the University of Rostock will discuss the promotion of gifted people in her lecture. In addition, the Vilshofen middle school presents concepts for inclusive school development, with principal Florian Zirbel emphasizing the importance of inclusion as a central component of a contemporary understanding of schooling.
The upcoming lectures are scheduled as follows:
- 8. Juli: Prof. Dr. Markus Pissarek über inklusiven Deutschunterricht
- 15. Juli: Prof. Dr. Matthias Brandl und Dr. Stefanie Winkler über Begabungsentfaltung in Mathematik
- 22. Juli: Tanja Beattie vom ISB München über „Inklusive Positive Schulentwicklung (INPOSE)“
Given the ongoing social changes, addressing these issues in the educational sector is more important than ever, and the events at the University of Passau offer an excellent platform for discussion and exchange. Further information about the lecture series can be found on the University of Passau website, which provides information about the current development of teacher training and its challenges. The initiatives of the quality offensive for teacher training also play a crucial role in the future design of inclusive teacher training and are supported by numerous innovative projects.
