Promote inclusion at Bavarian universities

There is growing awareness of the challenges that students with disabilities and chronic illnesses face at universities. The Bavarian Ministry of Science has developed a comprehensive concept to promote inclusion at Bavarian universities. The aim of this concept is to sustainably improve the study conditions for this group of students.

The measures include, among other things, the barrier-free design of buildings, the expansion of study advice for students with disabilities and appropriate training for university teachers to ensure barrier-free didactics. This is all the more important because, according to the BEST study and the 20th social survey, around seven percent of students say they have a disability or chronic illness.

In order to promote exchange and mutual support, a network of Bavarian representatives for the disabled was founded. This network, which consists of an association of representatives for disabled people from Bavarian universities of applied sciences, meets twice a year. The topics range from the evaluation of the HRK recommendation “One University for All” to new recommendations for organizing advice and service offerings for affected students.
