Children's University Bamberg: Discover the world of Taylor Swift and more!
Children aged 9 to 12 can now register for the Bamberg Children's University. The events will take place in the winter semester 2025/26 at the Otto Friedrich University of Bamberg and are specifically aimed at younger listeners. Adults are not permitted at the lectures, which is intended to provide children with a relaxed atmosphere in which to learn and discover. The children's university was launched in 2003 and has since established itself as an important part of the educational landscape in Bamberg. More information and registration are below www.uni-bamberg.de/kinderuni/ available.
The first lecture, taking place on Saturday, November 8, 2025, is dedicated to the success of Taylor Swift. Prof. Dr. Jörn Glasenapp, who leads the event, is not only a professor at the University of Bamberg, but is also intensively involved with the Taylor Swift phenomenon. He sees the artist as a potential “kingmaker” in the upcoming US presidential election campaign, as Swift could influence political opinions due to her enormous reach – with 283 million followers on Instagram. This will be followed by a lecture on the effects of climate change on November 15th.
Variety of topics
On November 22nd, children can look forward to a special lecture about archaeological finds and table culture in the Middle Ages. Britta Ziegler will provide exciting insights here. This event takes place in two blocks from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with the number of participants limited to 20 children. This means that all participants can be actively and personally looked after.
The choice of topics reflects the importance of education, which is a fundamental right for every child. Every child has the right to quality education in order to develop their personality and abilities. Well-educated children are important not only for their own future, but also for society as a whole. These values are in line with the goals of the 2030 Agenda, which is aimed at inclusive education for all children, regardless of background or individual challenges.
In addition, Taylor Swift is a symbol of emancipation, especially for young women. Their fans, feeling part of a respectful and supportive community, could also potentially participate in political discourse, increasing the relevance of their voice in society. The “Taylorverse” in which many of her fans identify themselves could help to question social norms.
The Bamberg Children's University not only offers a platform for imparting knowledge, but also encourages discussion of current topics. The events are an important step in the right direction to support and promote children's development.
