Croatian-Bavarian University Day: New partnerships in focus!
On June 5th and 6th, 2025, the Croatian-Bavarian University Day will take place in Regensburg, an important event organized by the University of Regensburg and the BAYHOST (Bavarian University Center for Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe). The aim of the University Day is to offer a comprehensive insight into the Croatian university and research landscape and to present existing collaborations and initiate new partnerships.
The opening speech will be given by Prof. Dr. Udo Hebel, President of the University of Regensburg. This event is particularly significant because the University of Regensburg has had intensive cooperation with Croatia, especially with the University of Zagreb, for over 15 years. Milestones in this long-standing cooperation include the opening of the first Croaticum in Germany and the establishment of a joint center for German and European studies in 2023. In addition, a strategic partnership between Zagreb and Regensburg was established in 2024.
Extensive participation and program diversity
The university day will bring together over 80 participants from six Croatian universities and two research institutes as well as from nine Bavarian universities and four universities of applied sciences. The program provides for various formats, including meetings of university management and discussions on key topics such as internationalization, digitalization, artificial intelligence, technology transfer, sustainability and diversity.
Particular attention is paid to practical further training. Several workshops cover specialist topics such as biotechnology, bioinformatics, medical technology, artificial intelligence and engineering. These events not only offer insights into current developments, but also opportunities for individual discussions with colleagues from Croatia.
Croatia as a valuable partner
Croatia has established itself as an attractive cooperation partner for Bavarian universities. As an EU member state, it offers an extensive range of English-language study programs and can look back on a wealth of experience in international projects such as Erasmus+ and Horizon Europe. BAYHOST therefore plans to hold further follow-up events in specialist areas to strengthen this collaboration.
There is great interest in the event and registration is required to take part, which must be done via an online form by May 5, 2025. BAYHOST also offers free hotel accommodation in Regensburg for a limited number of participants. Registration details can be found on the BAYHOST website.
This increased international cooperation shows that German universities are increasingly positioning themselves in global educational competition. Initiatives such as the Croatian-Bavarian University Day are part of a comprehensive strategy for internationalization, which also includes the code for German university projects abroad, which sets minimum qualitative requirements for academic and ethical standards, such as International university cooperation report.
