Attention literature lovers: Thielemann is presenting his new novel!
The University of Bamberg invites you to an exciting event on June 17, 2025 that combines literature and lively discussion. The reading and the subsequent conversation with the aspiring author Markus Thielemann and moderated by Agnes Brunner will take place at 6:15 p.m. in the lecture hall U2/00.25. During this event, Thielemann will present his latest work “From the North, a Thunder Rolls”, which is on the shortlist for the German Book Prize 2024.
Markus Thielemann looks back on a diverse education. Born in Hanover in 1992, he studied geography, philosophy and literary writing. He made his debut in 2021 with “Between the Pines”. In his current novel, Thielemann deals with the wolf's return to the Lüneburg Heath and the associated conflicts in the village, coupled with the job of heath shepherd. The reviews report a captivating and exciting narrative style, which is described as a psychological portrait of the West German province and elevates the work to an “anti-homeland novel”. Thielemann is praised for his ability to incorporate dark elements into an otherwise idyllic portrayal, earning him recognition in media such as Berlin newspaper, taz and Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung brought in.
Moderated by Agnes Brunner
Agnes Brunner, who moderates the reading group, also has experience. She studied German and literature and has been an editor at C.H. since 2019. Beck Publishing. Her role will be crucial in introducing audiences to the novel's complex themes: conflicts of identity, political dislocation, and the tensions between urban and rural life.

Night concert at the University of Bamberg
In addition to literary events, the university also offers musical performances. A night concert will take place in the university auditorium on June 21, 2025 at 9:00 p.m. The chamber choir, directed by Wilhelm Schmidts, will present a selection of a cappella works, including compositions by Brahms and Elgar.
