New network for sustainability: Start campaigns for the region!
The “Learning Places for Sustainability” network celebrated its founding in Eichstätt last year. The aim is to encourage the population to actively promote sustainability in the region. The newly presented annual program, which is already being advertised through a flyer in Eichstätt and the surrounding area, offers numerous activities aimed at families and interested parties.
A special highlight will be the public presentation of the network on May 11th at the Forest Day at the Schernfeld Forest Adventure Center. Under the direction of Dr. Johanna Umbach, the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt (KU) coordinates the activities of the network, which is supported through cooperation with various partners such as the Altmühltal Nature Park Environmental Center and the Climate Protection Department.
Diverse offers and promotions
The network's program includes a variety of hands-on activities, guided tours and insights into scientific findings. The goals are to reach more people and inform them about the exciting learning places in the district. These events are part of a larger effort to expand engagement with citizens, schools and young people. Already at the first meeting in the Geo-Dome of the Kapuzinergarten it became clear that practical tips for garden and forest care as well as insights into current scientific projects were on the agenda.
The KU has been committed to sustainability and climate protection for many years and would like to further expand regional cooperation. The network is used to create a joint program of events for citizens, which is intended to create a wide range of educational opportunities. The aim is to network other educational locations and develop new offerings. Information about the members of the network and current events can be found on the website.
Education for sustainable development
The concept of education for sustainable development plays a central role within the network. Young people in particular should be encouraged to actively participate in social and environmental policy-making processes. The KU aims to reconcile ecological and social responsibility in order to promote sustainable solutions.
The Federal Environment Agency emphasizes that the consistent participation of the young generation in the conception and methodology of environmental education programs is a crucial prerequisite for the transformation towards a more sustainable society. Educational projects that often take place in informal and extracurricular situations can thus be further developed in a targeted manner.
In summary, the “Learning Places for Sustainability” network is not only a platform for information and participation, but also an example of the KU’s commitment to the region. The initiative is perceived as a pioneer and source of inspiration on the way to implementing the sustainability goals.
