Exciting lectures and competitions: Bamberg in May 2025 under the sign of culture!

Exciting events are on the program at the University of Bamberg on May 7, 2025. The Press release from the University of Bamberg provides information about a variety of lecture topics that illuminate both academic and social issues.

The European Ethnology guest lecture series begins on May 12, 2025 at 6:15 p.m. and will take place at different locations around the university. Under the title "Classism. The forgotten form of discrimination?" will be Prof. Dr. Francis Seeck from the Nuremberg University of Technology will give a lecture. The lecture series deals with the topics of social inequality and classism, which arouses great interest.

A variety of events for everyone interested

On May 13, 2025, the Archaeological Colloquium will present the lecture by Dr. Thomas Schmidts from the Leiza Museum of Archeology in Mainz. Under the title “Building ceramics for the late antique imperial residence of Trier - production, networks and construction activity as reflected in the brick stamps” he will shed light on an exciting topic that is rich in history and important finds. The venue is also at Kranen 12 (lecture hall KR12/02.18).

The lecture series “Machine Learning in the Historical Humanities and Social Sciences” starts on May 15, 2025 at 4:15 p.m. in online format. Dr. Angela Huang will speak on the topic of the opportunities and challenges of machine learning. Her lecture is entitled “Hanse goes digital: (semi-)automated handwriting recognition and digital evaluation of Hanseatic sources – experience and perspectives” and is aimed at anyone interested. Registration is required.

Cultural highlights in May

May 16, 2025 marks the start of the Irmler Music Competition, which begins at 10 a.m. in the ERBA's Irmler Music Hall. This public event includes solo, accompaniment and ensemble competitions and was founded in 1990 by Dr. Hermann Irmler founded.

Another highlight is the concert “Les Barricades Mistérieuses”, which will take place on May 18, 2025 at 5 p.m. in the Irmler Music Hall. Pianist Christoph Schanze will perform works by well-known composers such as François Couperin and J. S. Bach. Tickets cost 16 euros (reduced 8 euros) and are available from the BVD ticket service and at the box office.
