Sparkasse Passau supports education: 12,000 euros for the university!
Sparkasse Passau has once again demonstrated its commitment to the University of Passau. With an annual donation of 12,000 euros, the bank supports research, teaching and student initiatives at the renowned educational institution. The University of Passau announced this in a recent press release. In addition to this sum, the District Association of Lower Bavarian Savings Banks is donating a further 2,500 euros to the Association of Friends and Supporters of the University of Passau in order to strengthen the educational landscape in the region.
The donation was handed over in the presence of the President of the University, Prof. Dr. Ulrich Bartosch, and the CEO of Sparkasse Passau, Christoph Helmschrott. Helmschrott emphasized the central role of education for innovation and progress in the region.
Awards for outstanding achievements
The Sparkasse's 12,000 euros will be used for various prizes that recognize outstanding academic achievements. These include the Sparkasse Passau Science Prize for outstanding dissertations and the Sparkasse Prize for the best bachelor's and master's theses in the “Cultural Economics/International Cultural and Business Studies” course. In addition, the three best graduates in economics will be honored.
Another important aspect are the Germany scholarships, which are awarded annually to two students from the city and district of Passau. These scholarships support talented young people and offer financial support, which for many is a decisive advantage in their studies.
The remaining funds from the donations also support various student initiatives as well as public symposiums and scientific conferences at the university. This shows the efforts of the savings bank and the support association to create a dynamic and supportive environment for students and researchers.
Promoting talent and social commitment
In the academic year 2022/2023, the University of Passau will award a total of 62 Germany scholarships, each worth 300 euros per month for one year. These scholarships are financed half by the federal government and half by private donors. An award ceremony took place on November 24th, at which Prof. Dr. Bettina Noltenius handed over the certificates to the scholarship holders. A total of 400 students applied, and the selection was based on criteria such as academic achievements, high school diploma grades, social commitment and living conditions.
The scholarship program's supporters include well-known regional and national companies as well as foundations and private individuals. These include long-standing supporters such as Sparkasse Passau, 4process AG and Infineon Technologies AG as well as new supporters such as the Lindner Group KG and the Passauer Neue Presse Foundation. This broad support shows how important the commitment of business and society is to supporting young academics.
The opportunity for international students to also apply for the scholarships is a valuable addition to the program and promotes intercultural exchange at the university. In this way, talented young people from all over the world can contribute to the scientific community in Passau.
In addition, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) provides a wide range of scholarship offers that are specifically tailored to foreign students, graduates and university lecturers. These scholarships offer a valuable opportunity to study or research in Germany and contribute to academic networking at an international level. The application processes and requirements can be found in detail in a specially created database.
