Thousands of students celebrate a brilliant start at TUM!
The Technical University of Munich (TUM) started its new academic year today with an impressive enrollment record of 14,750 first-semester students. At the open-air event “Welcome@TUM”, which took place on the Garching campus, the new students celebrated their entry into a new phase of life. Supported by the Friends of TUM e.V., the event was a celebration of diversity and internationality.
Among the guests were high-ranking personalities, including TUM President Thomas F. Hofmann, Prime Minister Markus Söder and Science Minister Markus Blume, all of whom gave their best wishes to the new students. The beginning of university life was highlighted as a special moment, associated not only with joy but also with many expectations.
An exciting first day
The atmosphere on campus was consistently positive. Students from different countries shared their enthusiasm about the welcoming culture at TUM. “It feels great to be here,” said Andy Kim, a mechanical engineering student, while Waleed Alhusani, a chemical engineering student from Abu Dhabi, praised the warm welcome.
To make it easier for international students to get started, TUM offers additional information and events. The “TUM First Steps” event will take place from September 2nd to 7th, 2024. This virtual event is aimed at international students who have received their admission to TUM and offers essential information for a successful start to their studies.
Important information for international students
During the “TUM First Steps” event, various topics will be covered, including enrolling at TUM, the German healthcare system as well as information on residence permits and registration with the registration authority. Students also receive valuable tips on finding accommodation and financing their studies.
In addition, reports from international students will be presented, providing insights into their own start and tips on how to avoid culture shocks. This support is an essential part of TUM's efforts to provide a comprehensive welcome offer for its international students.
