The Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt mourns the loss of an outstanding personality. Prof. Dr. Brigitte Louis, a highly esteemed psychologist, died on August 15, 2025. Her work and commitment to the university leaves a lasting mark on the academic community.
Prof. Louis had been a member of the Munich Benedictine community of Venio since 1969 and lived under the name Sr. Birgitta. From 1977 to 2002 she made a name for herself as a professor of psychology at the Faculty of Religious Education and Church Educational Work. Her expertise spanned a wide field, including the academic qualification of students for pastoral care and religious education.
Recognition and commitment
In her role as Vice Dean, she headed the faculty department at the Munich location from 1985 to 1987 and from 1991 to 1992. Her commitment to the development of the technical college course in religious education is particularly worth mentioning. From the very beginning she advocated the implementation of human science disciplines such as psychology, pedagogy and sociology in application-oriented theological studies.
In her research, Brigitte Louis linked scientific empiricism with the biblical Christian tradition. Her approach has been appreciated by students and colleagues alike, highlighting her scholarship and poise. The Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt thanks her for her many years of work and will honor her memory.
