TUM alumni community is growing: first official chapter opened in Singapore!

On September 10, 2025, the first official Alumni Chapter of the Technical University of Munich (TUM) was opened in Singapore. This chapter is part of an initiative to actively integrate the international alumni community and strengthen ties between former students and their alma mater. The event brought together committed alumni to promote global collaborations and strengthen the connection to TUM. Among those present were Prof. Juliane Winkelmann, Executive Vice President for International Alliances and Alumni, as well as Dr. Markus Waechter, Vice President TUM Asia.

This chapter was launched together with TUM Asia and the research platform TUMCREATE. Particularly important was the presentation of official certificates to two alumni who will lead the chapter. Dr. Thai-Lai Pham, who serves as CEO of Siemens ASEAN, will become President of the TUM Alumni Chapter Singapore. Rakesh Kumar, Senior Silicon Design Engineer at Advanced Micro Devices, holds the position of Chapter Director. Both bring valuable experience and networks that will be of great importance for membership.

Global knowledge exchange

The Alumni Chapter in Singapore is part of the strategic efforts of the TUM Global and Alumni Office. This office's mission is to connect members of the TUM family across disciplinary, cultural and generational boundaries. Its aim is to promote the exchange of knowledge on a global level and to develop international partnerships with leading teaching and research institutions.

In addition, the TUM Global and Alumni Office is committed to seeding and fostering lifelong relationships between alumni and the university. It supports international talents in integrating into the TUM family and offers career services for students, doctoral candidates and alumni to promote their professional development. The principles that are followed include integrity, collegiality, excellence as well as resilience and sustainability.

Opportunities for alumni

TUM also actively supports alumni from developing countries DAAD Alumni Program clearly. Seminars are offered that promote professional development and adapt to the needs of alumni from different countries. The topics of these training courses range from water and environmental management to corporate social responsibility and fair trade.

These initiatives not only contribute to the networking of existing alumni activities, but also offer valuable opportunities to make contacts with German educational institutions and companies. The exchange between global and local actors is thus strengthened, which benefits alumni who operate in an increasingly interwoven international education system.
