Ukrainian women in Eichstätt: A moving exhibition of hope

An impressive exhibition will open in Eichstätt from March 17, 2025, which deals with the fate of Ukrainian women who fled the war in their homeland. The event entitled“Ukrainian women in Eichstätt”takes a look at the lives and experiences of these women since the beginning of the war.

The exhibition can be seen in the Eichstätter Citizens' Office of the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt until April 10, 2025. During this time, a total of ten portraits and just as many extensive interviews, which were conducted in German and Ukrainian, will be exhibited. The interviews document the hopes, fears and challenges that the refugees face. Leading photographer Hubert Klotzeck and interviewer Dina Umin realized this remarkable project, which caused a stir nationwide and was discussed in the media. The Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt reports that the opening of the exhibition will take place on March 17th at 6 p.m. in the Citizenship Office.

Vernissage and musical accompaniment

The Ukrainian musician Mariia Mytko will perform at the opening of the exhibition. She comes from Kharkiv and has lived with her family in Eichstätt since the attack on her hometown. The event is thus emotionally enriched not only by the visual content, but also by the musical performance.

The exhibition is part of the democracy conference of the Partnership for Democracy in the Eichstätt district. Their opening times are Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

History of the exhibition

The idea for the exhibition came about in spring 2022. Elvira Lutsenko began photographing Ukrainian women and was inspired by personal meetings and conversations. The aim was to bring the stories, thoughts and experiences of these women closer. The participant structure is characterized by a diversity in terms of age, place of residence and profession. Nevertheless, all women are united by a common theme: the confrontation with war.

Every woman has her own unique story, shaped by her thoughts and emotions. The conversations address feelings that contribute to both survival and encouragement. The Osnabrück warehouse highlights that the first presentations of the exhibition took place in Osnabrück on March 8, 2023 and were very well received.
