University of Passau: Flexible part-time study for working parents!
The University of Passau will offer part-time studies in three master's programs from the winter semester of 2025/26. This decision comes in response to the increasing demand for flexible study models. This was announced by the University of Passau in a recent announcement. The new offerings include the Master of Legal Informatics, the Master of Caritas Science and Value-Oriented Management as well as the newly introduced Master of Pastoral Work. All programs can also be studied full-time.
In particular, part-time study aims to facilitate access to academic education for people who, due to time constraints, do not have the opportunity to complete a master's degree full-time. This could particularly affect working people, parents or even older students. Demographic change and its effects on the student body are important here. More and more people in special circumstances are looking for ways to combine study and work. The increasing shortage of skilled workers also requires an increase in the proportion of university graduates, which is also politically required.
Detailed course information
The Master of Legal Informatics imparts IT skills that are necessary for professional activities at the interface of law and digitalization. The flexible study design, which includes both online studies and live streams, is particularly attractive. The Master of Caritas Science and Value-Oriented Management prepares students for leading positions in health and social services. The courses mainly take place on Thursdays, Fridays and weekends and are supplemented by digital formats.
The new Master of Pastoral Work is aimed at career changers and people who do voluntary work in church communities. This course combines theological content with practice-oriented modules and primarily relies on digital courses. In addition, one or two attendance weekends are planned per semester.
Application deadlines and access
The application deadlines for the new degree programs have also been set. The deadline for the Master of Laws in Legal Informatics is August 15th, while the deadline for the Master of Caritas Science and Value-Oriented Management is September 30th. Further information about the programs and application procedures is available on the University of Passau website: University of Passau.
This development not only underlines the concept of lifelong learning, but also the effort to promote the compatibility of studies, work and family obligations. The diversity of origins, professional and life experiences of the part-time students will enrich the university as a whole, as Heidelberg University also emphasizes: The creation of such part-time study programs is a further step towards greater educational equality and individual support in the university landscape.
