Würzburg cafeteria at Hubland: After renovation, now with new highlights!

The cafeteria at Hubland in Würzburg began operations again on May 19, 2025 after extensive renovation work. The reopening, which has been postponed many times, brings a breath of fresh air for students and external guests. The Würzburg Student Union is responsible for operations and looks after the physical well-being of around 210,000 students in Hesse and has also undertaken the comprehensive redesign of the cafeteria in Würzburg.

With 1,050 seats in an area of 2,000 square meters, the cafeteria can serve up to 4,200 hot meals every day. The offering is varied and includes changing meat, fish, as well as vegetarian and vegan dishes. Nine serving counters are available to guests, including cozy self-service areas with side dishes, vegetables, a salad bar and desserts, with many of the sweets on offer being vegan.

Diverse offer for everyone

Particularly noteworthy is the new thematic structure of the menu. Visitors will enjoy popular stations such as a pizza station, a wok cooking area and a kebab grill that offers freshly prepared kebab plates. Classic dishes such as currywurst, pasta and teppanyaki specialties guarantee that there is something for every taste. There is also a play area for children in the cafeteria, which makes visiting easier for families.

The cafeteria is open from Monday to Friday between 10:45 a.m. and 2:45 p.m., with food being served from 11:00 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. External guests are also welcome, although they will have to pay slightly higher prices.

Background to the renovation

The extensive renovation work on the cafeteria took several years and was necessary to modernize the kitchen and the building installations without changing the overall appearance. Originally, 50 million euros were budgeted for the renovation, but the actual total investment amounts to 66.3 million euros. Delays occurred due to water damage, problems with the ventilation system and a lack of materials and personnel. The existing cafeteria at Hubland Nord had to be closed on May 14th to complete the final phase of preparations.

The newly designed cafeteria area now offers additional seating and provides guests with coffee, cake and snacks from Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

In conclusion, after a long period of closure, the Hubland cafeteria is now well equipped to meet the needs of students. The modernizations not only make the cafeteria more attractive, but also contribute to an improved service offering that takes many current nutritional trends into account. No matter where you look, the cafeteria offers a return to normality in a central location for the majority of students in Würzburg.
