Future of education: Campus Straubing relies on sustainable technologies!
Published on September 9th, 2025, a new podcast episode is dedicated to TUM podcasts the innovative orientation of the Straubing campus. This was founded in 2017 and brings together various disciplines such as engineering, chemistry, biotechnology, economics and materials science. The main goal of the campus is the development of sustainable technologies and their economic implementation.
The range of courses includes a total of eight programs, which include both bachelor's and master's courses, including “Chemical Biotechnology”, “Bioeconomy” and the particularly popular program “Sustainable Management & Technology”. In the podcast, various experts speak about the challenges and opportunities associated with sustainable technologies.
Expert opinions and innovations
The guests include prominent personalities such as Prof. Volker Sieber, rector of the campus, who explains the strategic direction and the importance of the location. Claudia Doblinger, Professor of Innovation and Technology Management, describes her role in promoting start-ups. Sebastian J. Goerg, Professor of Economics, also provides insights into a current research project on the circular economy.
A special contribution comes from Maria Schiessl, an alumna and climate protection manager, who describes her practical experiences and the implementation of her academic career. These discussions highlight the relevance of interdisciplinary approaches in current higher education and professional practice.
Master's program in Sustainable Management and Technology
The master's degree program “Sustainable Management and Technology” plays a central role in the training of managers who need to understand structural change in companies. Loud CS TUM Students are taught essential skills that relate to the development, organization and control of sustainable systems. Technical and business principles are used here, which are crucial for the modern value chain. The focus is on raw material procurement, technology development and the integration of ecological and social effects into business decisions.
Students acquire the ability to master complex challenges in a globalized market and work on practical solutions to current sustainability issues. An essential element of the training is working in interdisciplinary teams, which is achieved by incorporating key technologies in areas such as sustainable chemistry and the energy industry.
Study content and practical projects
The interdisciplinary approach is further strengthened by the content of the course, which includes, among other things, critical philosophy of technology, climate science and circular technology, such as University of Hanover explained. Students start their studies with a practical project that is worked on in groups to develop engineering solutions for current topics.
The preliminary internship, which must be successfully completed by the end of the fourth semester, is particularly important. Later in the course of their studies, graduates can choose from various areas of focus that specifically prepare them for careers in future-oriented industries.
