Future for schools: Passauer Camp revolutionizes educational approaches!
On May 30, 2025 took place at the University of Passau the first moreBNE camp took place. This event, organized by Center for Teacher Training and Subject Didactics (ZLF), aimed at teachers, teacher training students, lecturers and extracurricular educational practitioners. The aim was to develop materials for sustainable school teaching in the context of education for sustainable development (ESD).
The camp was held under the motto “The white pigeons are tired?” took place and focused on the challenges of the 21st century, including climate change, wars and migration. The co-leaders Prof. Dr. Andreas Eberth and Dr. Hannes Birnkammerer would like to encourage participants to exchange ideas and develop new, open educational resources (OER). The event offered a platform to give both experienced users and newcomers to the field of OER the opportunity to actively participate in the program.
Content and program of the camp
The program included interactive workshops and sessions covering various topics in transformative education:
- Thea Kakavand und Florian Niederhuber: Software für gemeinsame OER-Erstellung
- Prof. Dr. Andreas Eberth und Arne Popp: Umgang mit Rassismus und Antisemitismus
- Hauptmann Klaus Schedlbauer: Erfahrungen im Gespräch mit Kindern über Krieg
- Pascale Rosenthal: „Verfassungsviertelstunde“ an Schulen
- Charlot Hoffmann und Michael Lachetta: Workshop zu spielbasierten GeoBreakouts
The workshops were not only aimed at experienced educational practitioners, but were also open to OER newcomers. This approach promoted a creative exchange about concrete teaching ideas for sustainable education and enabled networking among the participants.
ESD and the role of OER
The concept of education for sustainable development aims to enable students to understand the impact of their own actions and make responsible, sustainable decisions. The challenges here are supporting the students in the development of the necessary skills. Against this background, another project highlighted digital learning units as OER. These units are intended to specifically support prospective teachers and are available on a special website.
The materials developed as part of the moreBNE camp are publicly available as OER and free of charge, which facilitates their dissemination and use in educational institutions. Future camps on other educational topics are already being planned and are intended to continue the dialogue about innovative educational approaches.
