Future project in Ingolstadt: promoting talent for young minds!

On September 24, 2025, the new gifted support project “Reg10n der Zukunft” was presented, which focuses on strengthening the support of gifted people in the Ingolstadt metropolitan area. The aim is to offer young people in the 10th grade support in their personal skills development and political education. The project initiators focus on an intensive examination of socio-political issues and encourage participants to formulate their own points of view. Workshops are led by experienced coaches from the Catholic University (KU).

The President of the KU, Prof. Dr. Gabriele Gien, highlighted the social responsibility of education and emphasized the importance of young people's commitment. Brigitte Grams-Loibl, the ministerial representative for high schools in Upper Bavaria-West, emphasized that the project can broaden the horizons of talented students. Mayor Dr. Dorothea Deneke-Stoll sees the initiative as an opportunity to familiarize young people with socio-political issues.

A common goal: promoting talent

The city of Ingolstadt supports the project as part of its “Educational Region in Bavaria” initiative and promotes networking between educational institutions. Education speaker Marc Grandmontagne pointed out the importance of supporting talented people for the future viability of our society. The Katharinen-Gymnasium Ingolstadt acts as an event location and supporter of the project; Headmaster Dr. Matthias Schickel also emphasizes the promotion of key skills and an understanding of democratic processes.

The call for proposals for the projects includes both preparatory events and a two-day final conference in Ingolstadt. Student teams from all high schools in Region 10 can apply with a topic of their own choosing. Four teams will be selected from the submissions. The project begins with a workshop by Prof. Dr. Shashi Matta, who discusses skills for the future. Other professors will support the content of the workshops.

Financial support and support systems

In addition to the practical support of young people, the academic promotion of talented students in Germany aims to develop political, scientific and economic excellence. According to the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), a sum of 269.2 million euros is made available annually for student funding. Around 31,000 students currently benefit from this support, with 5,500 new scholarships being included in the funding every year.

The gifted support organizations, which have a tradition going back almost a hundred years, offer special educational opportunities for talented people and contribute to equal opportunities. The scholarships are income-dependent and are based on BAföG. The scholarship holders receive 300 euros per month for books, laptops and other teaching materials, and a flat rate for study costs is also granted.

The initiative is in line with the goal of Education & Begabung, a central contact point for talent development in Germany. This organization supports young people to develop their full potential, regardless of origin or background. It offers a variety of programs, including competitions and individual funding opportunities, that include professional guidance in addition to personal development.

The application deadline for student teams in the “Reg10n of the Future” project ends on October 31, 2025, and participation for the teams is free of charge. The project offers an excellent opportunity for talented students to actively engage with socio-political issues and to develop their own skills in order to be able to confidently shape the future.
