Escape Challenge: The digital adventure kick for tourism!

On March 6, 2025, a new project will start at the Technical University of Berlin that is intended to strengthen the tourism industry in an innovative way. The “Escape Challenge Tourism”, organized by the TU Berlin in collaboration with the Mittelstand-Digital Zentrum Tourismus, is aimed specifically at small and medium-sized companies in this industry. The aim is to promote team spirit and make employees aware of the opportunities offered by digitalization through a combination of digital trends and tricky puzzles.

Dr. Robert Richter, a scientist working at the TU Berlin, developed the concept of the Escape Challenge. He was recently named one of the “100 Most Important Minds in Berlin Science 2024,” underlining his expertise in this area. The challenge combines elements of typical escape rooms with innovative technologies such as artificial intelligence, augmented reality and 3D printing. Participants are involved in the interactive story “Bed & Breakfast with Urban Flair,” in which they have to solve various puzzles.

An experience for everyone

The event takes place in the Historical Archives of Tourism at the TU Berlin and runs from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Teams of 3 to 5 people have the opportunity to register via the website. A mobile version of the challenge is also offered, which can be used for various events. What is particularly noteworthy is that participation is free for companies, thanks to funding from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection.

This initiative is part of the “Mittelstand-Digital” network, which aims to promote digitalization in small and medium-sized companies as well as in the skilled trades. The project supports companies in becoming more future-proof by offering them the opportunity to try out and understand new technologies in a playful way.

Optimization through feedback

In order to design the Escape Challenge in the best possible way, students at TU Berlin have the opportunity to test the challenge before the official opening and provide their feedback for optimization. This ensures that the experience is both more informative and entertaining for participants.

In summary, the “Escape Challenge Tourism” is a promising concept that combines digital innovations and teamwork in an appealing framework. [tu.berlin] reports that this initiative could be an important step towards modernizing the industry. Interested companies should take advantage of the opportunity to actively participate in this pioneering project.
