ESMT Berlin creates new chair for disruptive innovations!

On September 15, 2025, the newly established TEAM GLOBAL Chair for disruptive innovation was ceremoniously inaugurated at ESMT Berlin. This initiative is intended to play a key role in the university's master's programs and continuing education. Professor Henry Sauermann, who has been Professor of Strategy at ESMT since 2017, will take on this chair with the support of Professor David Robinson from Duke University. Robinson is known as a respected expert in private equity, venture capital and entrepreneurial finance.

The main aim of the chair is to strengthen the connection between scientific research, the start-up ecosystem and practical entrepreneurial activity. This is done in close cooperation with Vali, ESMT's entrepreneurship hub. Jörg Rocholl, President of ESMT, highlights the fundamental importance of the chair, which aims to transform innovative scientific ideas into tangible solutions that have an impact not only within the campus but beyond.

Future of innovation

Lukasz Gadowski, founder of TEAM GLOBAL, describes disruptive innovations as fundamental changes in the existing concept. The chair will therefore be active in both research and teaching to inspire and support students, entrepreneurs and political decision-makers.

Henry Sauermann brings extensive experience to the new position. His research focuses on the motivations and incentives of scientists and their role in innovation and business processes. Sauermann has already appeared in leading academic journals such as Science, Management Science and PNAS published. The recently published book “How and When to Involve Crowds in Scientific Research,” written by Sauermann and Poetz, is further evidence of his expertise.

Ceremonial inauguration

The official inauguration event attracted numerous prominent guests from politics, science and business. Among the key speakers were Jörg Kukies and Ann-Kristin Achleitner, who emphasized the relevance of the new initiative and its impact on society. With the installation of the TEAM GLOBAL Chair, ESMT Berlin is positioning itself as a pioneer in promoting disruptive innovations and networking between science and practice.
