Quantum research up close: Experience World Quantum Day in Berlin!

On April 14, 2025, Urania Berlin will be the venue for the first World Quantum Day in Germany. The event starts at 3:00 p.m. and offers an exciting program about quantum physics and its future technologies. The event is organized by well-known experts such as Dr. Tobias Heindel from the Technical University of Berlin, Prof. Dr. Doris Reiter from the Technical University of Dortmund and Dr. Ulrich Bleyer from the German Physical Society e.V. Admission is free, although registration is required for some parts of the program.

The event is aimed at both the general public and specifically at young interested people. Workshops designed for students in grades 10 and above cover topics such as “quantum cryptography” and “quantum jumps in gold nanowires”. These workshops run from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and still have spaces available. Here participants can gain deeper insights into the exciting world of quantum science.

Diverse program for all age groups

The World Quantum Day program includes a hands-on exhibition open from 3:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. This interactive exhibition will not only introduce the QuanTour and the Q-Bus, but also present the traveling exhibition “RETHINKING PHYSICS”. Visitors can take part in experiments and enter into dialogue with quantum researchers. The exchange takes place in an informal setting to facilitate understanding of complex topics.

Another highlight is the arrival of the QuanTour light source, which will be celebrated between 4:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. There will be a lecture by Oliver Benson, followed by interactive discussions about developments and challenges in quantum research. Snacks and a relaxed atmosphere are provided so that visitors are able to exchange ideas directly with the experts.

Science meets creativity

The crowning conclusion of the day is the Quantum Science Slam, which takes place from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Here, six young scientists present their latest research work in an entertaining format of ten minutes each. The audience has the opportunity to vote for the best entry and thus choose the winner of the slam.

With a clear goal to make the fascinating world of quantum physics understandable and to initiate discussions about its influence on future technologies, World Quantum Day offers a unique platform. The focus is on topics such as quantum computers, quantum cryptography and the quantum internet in order to introduce participants to the relevance of quantum science in our everyday lives.

In summary, World Quantum Day 2025 in Berlin is an excellent opportunity for everyone to find out about and actively participate in the latest developments in quantum physics. Anyone interested is cordially invited to visit this free event at Urania Berlin and become part of a fascinating dialogue. More information is available on the Urania website as well as at the TU Berlin to find.
