UdK Berlin Art Award 2025: Young talents in the spotlight!
On May 20, 2025, the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK) is preparing for the opening of the nominees exhibition for the UdK Berlin Art Award 2025, which will take place on May 22, 2025. This annual award goes to outstanding talents in the Faculty of Fine Arts and the Art and Media degree program. With 28 works submitted, ten artists were nominated for the exhibition. The large number of submissions makes it clear how great the creative potential is within the university. The program offers the nominees a platform to present their artistic approaches. The thematic spectrum ranges from questions about identity and materiality to the examination of social and technological influences.
The nominees and their work
The nominated artists are:
- Louisa Boeszoermeny: Technologien und Konstruktion von Identität (Fotografie und Film)
- Lauriane Daphne Carl: Dialektik zwischen Begehren und Zerstören
- Miriam Döring: Körperliche Spannung, Handlungsfähigkeit und Dringlichkeit
- Özcan Ertek: Schnittpunkte von Klang, Skulptur und Bewegung
- Inti Gallardo: Materialität bewegter Bilder zur Rekonstruktion von Erinnerungen
- Kherlen Khereid: Film zur Erkundung von Identität und kulturellem Gedächtnis
- Seongwon Park: Unsichtbare Aspekte des Alltäglichen
- Clemens Schöll: Auswirkungen von Technologien auf die Gesellschaft
- Daria Syvakos: Alternative Räume durch 3D-Simulationen
- Jiawen Wang: Künstliche Intelligenz und digitale Medienkultur in audiovisueller Kunst
The award ceremony will take place as part of the opening of the nominees' exhibition, which will be on view on May 22, 2025 in both the foyer and the cross gallery at Hardenbergstrasse 33. In addition to the award, the winners also receive a monographic catalog and the opportunity to present their work in a joint exhibition at the Kommunale Galerie Berlin from November 22, 2025 to February 15, 2026.

The UdK Berlin Art Award replaces the “Prize of the President of the UdK Berlin for master students in the fine arts”, which was awarded from 1997 to 2022. This further strengthens the role of the UdK Berlin as one of the few artistic universities in Europe that combines all disciplines.
Former prize winners and exhibitions
The winners of the 2023 award are Finja Sander, Mateo Contreras Gallego, Shinoh Nam and Seungjun Lee. This group will be shown in a group exhibition, followed by solo exhibitions. Loud kunstleben-berlin.de, Finja Sander addresses disruptions and ambivalences in everyday life, while Mateo Contreras Gallego deals with absence and loss.
The solo exhibitions of these artists at the galerie burster in Berlin begin on November 8th, 2023 and end on December 2nd, 2023. These exhibitions are a continuation of the tradition of the UdK Berlin Art Awards, which was launched in 2023 as an annual award.
In a broader context the shows kunstpreis-deutschland.de the diversity of contemporary art in Germany and honors artists in various categories such as painting, sculpture and digital art. This illustrates the relevance of prizes and awards for promoting artists in today's art scene.
The UdK Berlin will also celebrate its 50th anniversary in its current form in 2025, an occasion that illustrates the university's relevance and influence on the cultural life of Berlin and beyond.
