Brandenburg welcomes 48 new dentistry students: A year full of opportunities!

On March 27, 2025, a new phase will begin for dentistry students at the Brandenburg Medical School (MHB). One year after the start of the course, 48 new students are welcomed. The reception takes place in Brandenburg an der Havel, where the new fellow students come from various regions such as Nuremberg, Palatinate, near Düsseldorf and even from Lake Constance to become part of this first cohort.

Mayor Steffen Scheller warmly welcomes the new students. It not only highlights the city's cultural and historical offerings, but also the leisure opportunities that are particularly important for young people. In the first few days, students have the opportunity to get to know each other and explore the city while they prepare for the upcoming start of their studies.

Growth and future of dentistry at the MHB

A promise from Scheller that is relevant for students is that the space for the dental sector will be expanded as the MHB grows. The conversion of the former electrical plant on Bauhofstrasse is planned. This new dental clinic will be the main location for inter-faculty dental training. For the first few months of your studies, transitional accommodation is planned on Zwilling-Scholl-Straße, in the former Dekra Academy.

The dentistry model course lasts ten semesters. The first section focuses on the functioning of the human body and systemic and oral diseases. In addition, basic dental treatment methods are taught, which are supplemented by four practical elements. The second stage of study deepens theoretical knowledge and offers comprehensive practical training, which culminates in the state examination. After successful completion, you can apply for a license to practice dentistry.

Application process and financial support

Applications for the Brandenburg model course in dentistry are made via an online platform. To ensure that all required documents are complete, applicants must submit a letter of motivation and CV and provide evidence of their university admission qualifications or equivalent. International students are also required to provide proof of German language skills at C1 level. After submitting the documents, confirmation will be sent via email as quickly as possible.

The selection process is comprehensive and includes selection days during which applicants have the opportunity to get to know the faculty members and go through various stages. You can also ask your own questions about the course of study and life in Brandenburg an der Havel. The selection committee not only assesses the applicants' technical knowledge, but also their motivation and relevant skills.

At the MHB, the tuition fees for the Brandenburg model course in dentistry total 132,000 euros. Although the university is state-recognized, it is predominantly not state-funded. To help students, various financing options are available, including loans, BAföG and various forms of scholarships. However, the MHB is primarily set up as a social business with the aim of improving dental care in Germany.
