Brandenburg Energy Day: Together for the energy transition on June 11th!
On June 6, 2025, Energy Minister Daniel Keller opened the 25th Brandenburg Energy Day, an important event to promote the energy transition in the region. The BTU President Prof. Dr. Gesine Grande and Jens Warnken, President of the IHK Cottbus, were present as co-organizers. This Energy Day will take place on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Brandenburg Technical University (BTU) in Cottbus-Senftenberg.
The event is organized by the Brandenburg Ministry of Economics, Labor, Energy and Climate Protection, the Brandenburg Chambers of Industry and Commerce and the Berlin-Brandenburg Energy Technology Cluster. The agenda includes a wide range of topics related to the energy transition, ranging from registrations starting at 9 a.m. to a panel discussion at 11:15 a.m. The event offers space for keynote speeches, networking and exchanges about future energy supply and its challenges.
Versatile program for the energy transition
The Energy Day program is divided into several sections. It starts with a welcome and specialist impulses, followed by the awarding of the energy efficiency awards of the state of Brandenburg. A highlight is the panel discussion entitled “Are we on track with the energy transition in Brandenburg?” In the afternoon, four specialist forums will take place in parallel, dedicated to the topics of energy efficiency, renewable energies, sector coupling and digitalization.
In addition to the event, the annual conference of the Energy Innovation Center Cottbus (EIZ) will take place, which supports over 70 researchers at the BTU with 14 professorships and connects over 50 partners from business, politics and science. This center plays a crucial role in theoretical and applied research on the energy transition.
Renewable energies in Germany
The Brandenburg Energy Day comes at a time when the expansion of renewable energies in Germany is taking a decisive step forward. 22.4% of the country's gross final energy consumption was covered by renewable energies in 2024, an increase of 0.8 percentage points compared to the previous year. The goal for 2030 is to generate 41% of gross final energy consumption from renewable sources.
A total of 517 billion kilowatt hours of energy production from renewable sources is expected for 2024. The various energy sources make up the following proportions: 47% biomass, 27% wind energy, 16% solar energy and the remaining 10% comes from hydro and geothermal power. These developments show how important ongoing discussions and innovation approaches are in order to achieve the desired goals and to set the course for a sustainable energy future in a timely manner.
Interested companies and institutions are invited to take part in this important event and explore the opportunities for a sustainable and efficient energy future. Registrations are possible via a previously opened registration portal, further information will follow shortly.
